From the outbreak of coronavirus in November 2019, it has infected over 7million people around the world and brought an untimely death to about half a million people as of 10th June 2020. To curtail the rapid transmission of the virus, countries are locked down. This lockdown, when lifted, it is predicted that thousands of people may become carriers of this deadly virus.

Such times, religious people across the world turn to the Holy Scriptures to seek comfort and pray for answers.

Several Christian faithful have quoted the Bible saying, “The virus (coronavirus) is mentioned in the Bible can be found in the book of Mathew (24:6-8)”. Another found comfort with “The time is short as known to many and are living in perilous times.

“As for what is to come in the future, coronavirus is just a taste of it. Abide in Christ and fear not the dangers ahead”

What does the Scripture say concerning COVID-19 and coronavirus?
Some Christian faithful are of the opinion that there are prophetic verses that may refer to the pandemic. As of principle, coronavirus is not mentioned by name in the Holy Book (Bible).

With reference to the book of Mathew chapter 24, it is revealed that “Nations will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines, natural disasters, pestilences. This will be the beginning of sorrows”

Mathew 24, is linked to the where Jesus Christ was telling His disciples about the expected signs before His second coming.

Similarly, the teaching of Jesus Christ found in Luke chapter 21, “Nations will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines, natural disasters, pestilences. This will be the beginning of sorrows. Before these will happen, hands shall be laid on you to persecute you, you will be delivered to the synagogues and into prisons. You will be brought before rulers and kings because of my name.”

Furthermore, reading through 2 Chronicles, there are warning of the plague. “There will be no rain if I shut up heaven. Locusts will devour the land If I command them. If pestilence is set among the people.”

“But if the people called by my name, humble themselves with prayers, renounce their evil ways and seek my face. They will be heard from above, sins will be forgiven and the land will be healed.”

With reference to these passages in the Bible, people are made to believe that coronavirus could be a harbinger of doom from the Bible.

Users of popular social media site (Twitter) shared their views about it saying, “War, Pestilence, Famine and death are the four horsemen of the apocalypse”, “Revelation 6:2-8 tells everything that needs to be known about coronavirus and four horsemen of the apocalypse. The wrath is felt everywhere though we can’t see them”

The Book of Revelation was put together by John the Apostle of His visions of the end of the world. Plagues and Pestilence were among the warnings before the end time.

There is hope as some claim that there is little to support COVID-19 as Biblical. This is because, the world have known natural disasters, wars, and plagues which have killed millions of people. But the world has not ended or have they been signs of the end.
